Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie Returns
To Ecuador To See How Familiar Faces Are Doing

Angelina Jolie returns to LAGO AGRÍO, Ecuador on June 18th (her last visit was back in 2002) to see how situations have changed for the refugees she met during her last visit 8 years ago.

She catches up with a female refugee who lost her two sons due to the violence of the war. She was blessed though to help her daughter deliver a child (the woman is a mid wife with whom Jolie joked that next time she would come to when or if looking to give birth again).

There are around 51,000 registered Colombian refugees in Ecuador, but UNHCR estimates that about 135,000 people are in need of international protection. This makes Ecuador the country with the largest refugee population in Latin America. Many of the Colombians live in remote settlements in the north, like Barranca Bermeja, often too scared to seek help from UNHCR and its partners.
